How We Turned “We’re Not Sure Yet” Into a Dream Anniversary Trip to French Polynesia

One of my favorite parts of travel planning is helping couples discover what they truly want from a special trip—especially when they’re not quite sure where to begin. Recently, I had the joy of working with a wonderful couple celebrating their wedding anniversary who knew they wanted something memorable… they just didn’t know exactly what that looked like.

They loved the idea of water, but they also loved trains. So, I began by sending them a variety of options—including a stunning trip to Switzerland—along with a few train itineraries and some transatlantic cruise ideas. They were exploring, dreaming, imagining. And then they discovered something that immediately caught their attention: Paul Gauguin Cruises.

They asked, “What do you think about French Polynesia?”

And just like that, their possibilities began to focus into something extraordinary.

Even though I hadn’t personally sold Paul Gauguin before, our agency was already registered with the cruise line. I reached out to their business development manager, learned everything I could, and together we crafted an anniversary getaway that fit this couple perfectly. The result? A trip they absolutely loved—from the destination to the service to every sunset in between.

One of their favorite stories to tell afterward still makes me smile. They assumed they would simply land in Tahiti and walk straight onto the ship. But in French Polynesia, that’s not how it works—and figuring out those details is where an advisor becomes invaluable. I coordinated their ferry tickets in advance, contacted their hotel in Moorea to arrange transfers from the port to their resort, and made sure they knew exactly how to get back to the port for their return ferry a few days later.

It was a lot of moving pieces, but that’s what I’m here for: handling the details so my travelers can focus on celebrating, relaxing, and making memories.

They returned home glowing, grateful, and already talking about what they want to do next.
And that is the magic of a well-planned trip—especially one that starts with a simple, “We’re not totally sure yet.”

If you’re dreaming of your own milestone getaway—whether it’s trains, turquoise water, a cruise, or something in between—I’d love to help you uncover your perfect fit.
